The Bayard, Nebraska, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Brock Porter Burry, who died following a tragic accident on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 20. Brock was widely remembered as a kind, humble, and compassionate young man whose quiet strength and generous spirit left a lasting impression on those around him. A recent graduate of the Northeast Community College Utility Lineman Program, he had been looking forward to beginning his professional career. His determination, strong work ethic, and willingness to serve others earned him the admiration of both instructors and peers.
Throughout his life, Brock enjoyed wrestling, an activity that helped develop the discipline and perseverance he carried into every aspect of his life. Away from school and work, he found joy in fishing, playing chess, performing magic tricks, attending concerts, and spending quality time with family and friends. Those who knew him describe him as someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand and brighten the day of others with his kindness.
He is survived by his parents, Brent and Kimberly Burry; his siblings, Bryce Burry and Grace Burry; his extended family; and many close friends who will continue to cherish the memories they shared with him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy Burry and Hugh Houchin.
Funeral services celebrating Brock’s life are scheduled to take place at Bayard High School Auditorium, followed by burial at Bayard Cemetery. Memorial donations will help establish a scholarship for future Vo-Tech students, ensuring his legacy of hard work and dedication continues to inspire others.
