The Pottsville, Pennsylvania community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Alexandria “Alex” J. Womer, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating vehicle accident in Schuylkill County.

According to authorities, Womer was involved in a fatal crash on Wednesday evening, July 29, 2026, on Burma Road in Blythe Township, north of Firetower Road. Pennsylvania State Police reported that Womer was traveling as a front-seat passenger in a Chevrolet Malibu when the vehicle lost control while navigating a left-hand curve.

The car reportedly rotated approximately 90 degrees and entered the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction. The passenger side of the Malibu was struck during the collision, causing both vehicles to come to a stop in the eastbound lane.

Womer suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified the cause of death as injuries sustained from the motor vehicle collision. The driver of the Malibu, a 19-year-old from Pottsville, was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East with suspected serious injuries. Several other passengers, including two teenagers, also suffered injuries in the crash.

Born and raised in the Pottsville area, Womer was remembered as a young woman with a promising future ahead of her. She had recently graduated from Pottsville Area High School as part of the Class of 2026 and was known for her involvement in the local Soap Box Derby community.

Earlier in July, Womer represented Pottsville at the 88th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, Ohio, after winning the Super Stock Division of the Pottsville Soap Box Derby. She competed with support from her family business, Womer’s Garage, where she also worked.

Following news of her passing, friends, classmates, and members of the community shared messages of sadness and remembrance, honoring a young life lost far too soon.

The crash remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police Frackville, with assistance from emergency responders and specialized investigation units. Officials have not announced any charges as the investigation continues. Alexandria “Alex” Womer’s passing leaves a lasting impact on her family, friends, and the Pottsville community.
